MU issues caution for game day traffic

The newly-paved, northern portion of Providence Road will not be striped before Missouri’s football game on Saturday, authorities say.

Lanes on the section of Providence between Business Loop 70 and Stadium Boulevard are marked by temporary reflectors now. The portion of Providence south of Stadium was striped earlier this week.

While authorities say they are somewhat concerned about the lack of striping due to the heavy traffic expected this weekend, they hope the reflectors will be sufficient to guide drivers.

“We’re always concerned about the number of people who are coming (to the football game),” said Capt. Brian Weimer of the MU Police Department. “Most importantly, the best thing we can tell everybody is to make sure you get there earlier so that you’re not in a rush.”

Chuck Sullivan of the Missouri Department of Transportation said contractors have yet to give a specific date for when the striping will be completed, but they have been notified about the concern.
