Driving through the abandoned neighborhoods, it's impossible to miss the brightly colored spray paint on each house. I knew that each house had the date and tag of who entered it, but today it really hit home.

One of the Presbyterian volunteers told me she had noticed a Missouri Task Force One tag on some of the houses in the Gentilly neighborhood. I knew that Task Force One had been one of the first groups into the Gentilly neighborhood after Hurricane Katrina, but I had never thought to look around for their signature on the houses.

As I drove around, following their tag from house to house, it hit me. The date on most of the houses was Sept. 22. Task Force One had entered some of these homes exactly one year ago today. And in some cases, the houses have barely been entered since.
