Missouri is one of five schools in the nation with top-25 teams in football, soccer and volleyball. The football team is ranked 25th by the Associated Press in this week’s poll, while the soccer team is 19th in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll and the volleyball team is 22nd in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll. The Tigers join Tennessee, California, Florida and Texas as the only schools to have teams ranked in each poll.
MU VOLLEYBALL: Senior Jessica Vander Kooi was recognized as the Big 12 Conference Player of the Week and the AVCA National Player of the Week on Monday. Vander Kooi paced the team with 6.86 points, 5.71 kills and a hitting percentage of .345 in seven games last week. The Tigers went 2-0 last week, defeating conference foes Kansas State and then-No. 5 Texas. Vander Kooi joins fellow senior Nicole Wilson as the only current Tigers player to garner national player of the week honors.
HICKMAN/ROCK BRIDGE GOLF: The Bruins were 10th and the Kewpies 14th out of 17 teams at the Capital City Classic Monday in Jefferson City. Danielle Keller shot a 92 to lead Rock Bridge, which shot 411 as a team. Ashlee Keller shot a 92 for Hickman.
HICKMAN SOFTBALL: The Kewpies lost 4-1 to Pilot Grove on Monday.
“The Pilot Grove pitcher threw really well and stayed balanced with her pitches,” coach Courtney Haskell said. Hickman is back in action against Rolla on Friday.
ROCK BRIDGE BOYS’ SOCCER: The Bruins improved to 5-6-2 on the season after a 4-2 victory over Sedalia on Monday.
“Our team played a really good game,” coach Kirby Keth said. “They almost let them back in it during the second half, but they kept their composure and held on.”
HICKMAN VOLLEYBALL: The Kewpies won 25-18, 20-25 and 25-15 at Eldon (5-10-1) on Monday. Caitlin Keith led the team with seven kills and Chloe Perkins added six.
“They played well,” coach Greg Gunn said. “They had a lull in the second game but regrouped and won the third game handily.”
The Kewpies are back on the court at 7 p.m. today against Helias.
