Looking for first conference win

The Missouri soccer team will attempt to win its first conference game of the season when they take on the Baylor Bears.

“Baylor is another one of those teams whose record is very deceiving,” coach Bryan Blitz said. “It’s another conference game, and it’s going to be a war just like any other conference game.”

The Bears are coming off of a 3-0 win over Iowa on Friday night. Senior midfielder Anna Schuch leads the team with 10 points. The Tigers are looking to rebound from a 3-1 loss on Friday to the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

After a 1-1 tie at the end of the first half, the Red Raiders scored two quick goals in the first seven minutes of the second half.

The win was Texas Tech’s first conference win since 2003, and the three goals allowed by Mallory Forst are a season high for the sophomore. Despite the Tigers outshooting the Red Raiders 16-12, Texas Tech had one more shot on goal.

“We just got outworked and outcompeted tonight, and we lost to a better team,” Blitz said.

Blitz looks at the Baylor game as an opportunity to respond and shake Friday’s game off quickly, because there is only a day between games.

“The good thing about these games is that there is not too much time between them, so you have an opportunity to prove yourself quickly,” Blitz said.

The game will begin at 1 p.m. today at Audrey J. Walton Stadium.
