A former MU football player was arrested early Monday on suspicion of second-degree domestic assault and felonious restraint after he bit his girlfriend in the face, Columbia police said.
Marcus King, 24, was arrested at 3:58 a.m., and was being held on $13,500 bail Monday afternoon.
“The suspect and his girlfriend got into a verbal argument which escalated into a physical fight,” Columbia police Capt. Steve Monticelli said. “They lived together at one time and are currently dating.”
Police said King bit his girlfriend’s face, threw her to the ground by the neck and then stopped her from leaving the apartment in the 1700 block of Forum Boulevard twice before police showed up.
King was a cornerback who played for MU from 2001 to 2005. He gained fame when he returned an interception 99 yards for a touchdown in the 2005 Independence Bowl. The play was the turning point in the Tigers’ 38-31 comeback against the South Carolina Gamecocks after being down 21-0.
