For the past several weeks, a tremendous amount of dirt work and demolition has been taking place at the southeast corner of Providence Road and Interstate 70, the former site of the Perry Legend Collision Repair Center. Heavy equipment operators have been excavating the site and doing other site preparation while the repair center is being razed.
So what’s up with that? While property owner Justin Perry has not responded to calls for comment, project manager Blake Franke, along with documents on file at the city Planning and Development Department, hold some answers.
Q. What’s going to happen with the property?
A. According to officials and documents at Planning and Development, Perry is preparing to build a three-business complex that will include a new collision repair center, which is currently operating on Lemone Industrial Boulevard. The complex will include a new Perry-Nissan car dealership on the northernmost part of the property. Perry also plans an automobile paint shop where the old collision repair center sits and a new collision repair center on the south side of Nebraska Avenue.
Q. So what kind of work is being done now?
A. Franke, project manager from Coil Construction, said workers from Emery Sapp & Sons are excavating and clearing the land so that Coil can pour a concrete pad and start constructing the new building on it.
Q. When will the construction of the car dealership be complete?
A. Franke said construction will take about five months. While he said the project is scheduled to begin next week, progress to date suggests it might take longer for the building to begin taking shape. The city still has no building permit on file. Kevin Murphy of Planning and Development said it usually takes a minimum of two weeks to get a building permit approved.
Q. What will the dealership look like?
A. The building will be a one-floor showroom with glass windows, surrounded by the lot with new cars. “It is going to be a brand-new, updated car dealer,” Franke said.
