Hickman senior Jones state diving champion

Hickman senior Dante Jones won the 1-meter diving event at the MSHSAA Boys State Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday in St. Peter’s. Jones won with with 418.20 points after finishing second in last year’s event in February. Rock Bridge placed fifth at the championships the with 134 points. Hickman was 15th with 65.

Hickman’s Michael Sheahen was second in the 500-yard freestyle and fifth in the 200-yard freestyle. The Bruins’ Michael Schoelz was fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke and seventh in the in the 100-yard freestyle. Rock Bridge also had a seventh from Keith Wilson in the 500 freestyle and a sixth from Wyatt Hodges in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Rock Bridge’s 200-yard medley relay finished fourth and its 400-yard freestyle relay team placed 14th. Hickman’s 400-yard freestyle relay team finished 13th.

COLUMBIA COLLEGE SOCCER: The Columbia College soccer team’s season officially ended when it was not awarded an at-large bid to the national tournament on Sunday. Before being bounced from the Region V tournament by William Jewell on Wednesday, the Cougars had been on a five-match winning streak that vaulted them from the postseason bubble to a second-place finish in the American Midwest Conference and an at-large bid to the Region V Tournament.

The Cougars will return nine starters next year, losing seniors Greg Kayser and Max Laitner.
