A Columbia man suspected of firing a gun from a moving vehicle turned himself in to Columbia Police on Thursday.

Dimetrious L. Woods, 27, was arrested on suspicion of unlawful use of a weapon. He was released from the Boone County Jail on $4,500 bond.

Woods was charged in connection with a Jan. 12 incident in which police responded to a report of shots fired near Newton and Phyllis drives in north Columbia. Multiple apartment buildings had been struck by the gunfire, according to a news release. Sgt. Ken Hammond of the Columbia Police Department said Woods “surrendered peacefully” after being made aware that police were looking for him.

Woods plead guilty to a separate felony charge of unlawful use of a weapon in December 2006, according to Missouri court records available on Casenet. Woods also currently faces a felony charge of second-degree drug trafficking in Lafayette County, according to Casenet.
