As part of the program “Homes for Computers,” the Voluntary Action Center, the Downtown Optimist Club and the city of Columbia have joined forces to donate about 40 used computers and related equipment, such as monitors, keyboards and mouse devices, to eligible families.
Applicants eligible for the computers must be enrolled in a program or another service of the Voluntary Action Center, have at least one child in kindergarten to 12th grade in a Columbia public school and not have a home computer. The Voluntary Action Center staff will determine the eligibility of the applicants.
Those interested must complete an application by Feb. 27. Applications can be picked up at the Voluntary Action Center offices at 800 N. Providence Road, Suite 220. If the Voluntary Action Center receives more applications than available computers, a drawing will be held. Winners will be notified by March 2 at the latest, and computers will be given to winners from 9 a.m. to noon on March 10 at the Downtown Optimist Club, 1201 Grand Ave.
