The Columbia College women’s basketball team overcame a slow start to beat Missouri Baptist 93-89 on Saturday in St. Louis. The Cougars (21-4, 9-1 AMC) led just 46-45 at halftime but used 56 percent shooting in the second half to push past the Spartans (11-14, 2-8).
Amber Lewellen’ 33 points led five Cougars in double figures. LeAnn Fossum scored 16, while Whitney Widaman, Jessica Wilkerson and Megan Archuleta each had 12. Helen Ogunjimi grabbed 10 rebounds, while Whitney Davis had eight assists. Aubry Parsons was the top scorer for Missouri Baptist with 39 points.
COLUMBIA COLLEGE MEN’S BASKETBALL: The Cougars lost 71-53 to Missouri Baptist on Saturday in St. Louis after falling behind 23-4 at the start of the game.
The Cougars (13-14, 5-4 AMC) used a 22-14 run to get back into the game, but still trailed 37-26 at halftime.
Bryant Chambly led the Cougars with 22 points, and Marcus Bradford had 10. Isaiah Johnson led the way for Missouri Baptist with 13 points.
HICKMAN GIRLS BASKETBALL: The Kewpies beat Nerinx Hall 42-36 on Saturday in St. Louis to improve their record to 23-1. Yvonne Anderson led Hickman with 14 points and Lauren Nolke scored 12. The Kewpies led 24-19 at halftime.
MISSOURI SOFTBALL: After winning their first two games of the season Friday, the Tigers lost 9-3 to Memphis and 7-1 to host Louisiana State on Saturday at the Easton Tiger Classic in Baton Rouge, La. Missouri beat Centenary College 8-1 and Middle Tennessee State 8-3 in its first two games of the tournament Friday.
