The son of MU basketball coach Mike Anderson was arrested early this morning on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
Coach Mike Anderson said in a statement Friday that his son would be suspended indefinitely from the team and would not be allowed to practice. “We are obviously very disappointed in the decision made by Michael,” he said. “This is a serious error in judgment and we regret any inconvenience this has brought upon our community, our campus and our program.”
MU Police Capt. Brian Weimer said Michael Anderson Jr., 21, was stopped by MUPD at Stadium Boulevard and Mick Deaver Memorial Drive about 1:35 a.m. Friday. Weimer said an officer made the stop after seeing Anderson swerve and run a red light.
The officer then conducted a field sobriety test, but Weimer would not say what Anderson's blood-alcohol content was. Anderson was then taken to the MU police station on campus where he later posted $500 bond, Weimer said.
Weimer said this was Anderson’s first driving while intoxicated offense and that he was cooperative with police.
Anderson, a sophomore guard, has appeared in 10 games this season and is averaging 1.9 minutes and 0.3 points per game. He was still listed as a member of the MU men’s basketball team but was not included in the pregame notes for Saturday’s game against No. 18 Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla.
