True/False celebrates March with an unconventional parade

There will be giant puppets and people riding tall bikes. But don’t think of the March March as a traditional parade.

At the Friday event, a new addition to this year’s True/False Film Festival, “there won’t be any convertibles with people waving their hands,” said festival organizer David Wilson.

The March March celebrates that the fourth annual documentary film festival is being held in March for the first time. The first three festivals were held in February. The parade is also meant to kick off the festival, even though it officially begins today.

The parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday in front of Kevin’s World, 26 N. Ninth St. It will proceed to the Missouri Theatre,

203 S. Ninth St. “Reality Bites,” a food-and-drink event open to pass-holders, will start there at 6 p.m. and “In the Shadow of the Moon,” a film about the men who walked on the moon, will follow at 7:30 p.m.

The March March will include the band, The Total Amateurs.

Everyone is welcome to attend the parade, including pets, said organizer Heidi Bennett. Wearing True/False colors — red and black — is appreciated.
