Andy McDonald swatted in a backhander 25 seconds into overtime for his second goal of the game, helping the Anaheim Ducks spoil the St. Louis Blues’ home finale with a 3-2 victory Saturday night.
Scott Niedermayer had a goal and assisted on the winner for the Pacific Division leaders. David Backes and Lee Stempniak scored for the Blues, who finished 18-20-3 at home in a rebuilding season after finishing last overall in 2005-06. The Blues finish with four games on the road, and the team got a standing ovation from a near-sellout crowd of 18,609 before leaving the ice.
Stempniak’s 25th goal early in the third tied it at 2. He had an open net after Barret Jackman’s shot from the left point bounced off the back wall and emerged on the right side. Stempniak has a goal in each of his past two games after totaling two assists his previous seven games.
Backes scored at 14:07, his first goal in 10 games.
The Ducks were 3-1 in the season series against the Blues.
MU TENNIS: The Tigers lost 6-1 at Texas Tech on Saturday, dropping them to 6-9 overall and 1-6 in the Big 12. Sophomore Raquel Wagner gave the Tigers their only point of the afternoon, defeating Brenna Jackson 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.
