The Boone County Fire Protection District has started advertising for one of two positions aimed at replacing former Assistant Fire Chief Sharon Curry. At a meeting Wednesday, Fire Chief Steve Paulsell said the Fire Protection District has run three advertisements and received 26 applications for an executive assistant.
Curry resigned Feb. 9 in a settlement over a complaint she filed against the board in July.
Members of the fire district have said Curry’s position had absorbed myriad tasks since she became an assistant fire chief in 2001.
The fire board and Paulsell had considered whether the tasks should be split into three positions, but decided they could split Curry’s old salary of $93,460 between two new administrative positions.
At the Wednesday meeting, the board decided the position currently being advertised will pay between $32,000 and $52,000.
“It’s an appropriate salary range for the market,” said board member David Griggs.
The board asked Paulsell and outside consultant Robert Scribner to start working on a job description for the other position, an administrative assistant.
