Police arrest suspect in stabbing

Police arrested a Columbia man early Thursday on suspicion of stabbing a 34-year-old Columbia man.

James C. Hoban, 29, surrendered around 3:45 a.m. to Columbia Police not far from 1019 Elleta Blvd., where the victim had been stabbed several times to the back, according to a police media release.

The man was taken to a local hospital, which police would not name. Police did not release his name or his condition.

Hoban is being charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action.

The investigation was under way.
