A second section of kindergarten was approved for the 2007-2008 academic year at the Columbia Independent School Board of Trustees’ meeting Tuesday.
“We are opening up a section because the demand is there,” said CIS’ communications coordinator, Karen Shryock.
CIS plans on meeting the demand for enrollment by adding a kindergarten class to accommodate to up to 14 students, Shryock said.
This is the first time there will be a second section of any CIS Lower School class. To create space for the classroom, fourth- and fifth-grade classrooms will be moved to Hickman Hall in the Upper School building. The new classroom will be adjacent to the existing kindergarten classroom, according to a CIS news release.
The growth of the school has advantages for students, faculty and the community, Head of School Trent Amond said. With the future campus plans, CIS is looking forward to expanding the school, Amond said.
