PrintA motion to reduce the bond of a Columbia man charged with murder in the slaying of Carlos Kelly was denied by a Boone County Circuit judge.
On Monday, special public defender Chris Slusher asked Judge Gene Hamilton to reduce the bond of Travis Midgyett from $1 million to $75,000. Hamilton reviewed the motion and handed down his decision to attorneys Thursday.
Midgyett, 27, was arrested in March 2006 and charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree homicide in the death of Kelly at his apartment in northwest Columbia.
In March, a Clay County jury could not reach a verdict in the case, and Hamilton declared a mistrial.
A new trial date of June 26 was set for Midgyett.
Rodney Cunningham, 30, and a third man, Felson Barney, 29, were also charged in connection with the murder. Cunningham’s trial is scheduled for May 1. Charges against Barney were dropped in September after a key eyewitness recanted his statement and said that police interrogators had coerced him.
