The Missouri baseball team failed to earn a sweep against Baylor, losing 8-3 Sunday in Waco.

Junior Evan Frey had a career-high five hits for the Tigers (28-12, 9-6 Big 12), scoring one run and driving in another on four singles and a double.

The loss went to Stephan Holst (1-1), who gave up three runs on two hits in one-third of an inning.

Shaver Hansen led the Bears (22-19, 7-11), driving in three runs and scoring another, while Matt Czimskey had three hits and an RBI. Beamer Weems and Dustin Dickerson each scored twice for Baylor.

HICKMAN LACROSSE: The Kewpies beat Shawnee Mission 18-3 in Columbia in a Missouri Scholastic Lacrosse Association game.

Thomas Eckles scored six goals and Nick Stohlgren added four more. Mason Poage had five assists and A.J. Jayamanne had three.

Hickman’s next game is against Olathe at 2 p.m Saturday in Columbia.

GOLF: Tiger Woods got his first look at Oakmont Country Club as he began preparations for the U.S. Open.

Woods played the back nine early Sunday morning with members and swing coach Hank Haney, then stopped for lunch and played the front nine in the afternoon.

The U.S. Open, to be played June 13-16, returns to Oakmont for the first time since 1994. It is one of the few classic championship courses in the United States that Woods had not played. He first qualified for the U.S. Open in 1995 as an amateur.

Woods said he thought Oakmont as a members’ course was far tougher than Winged Foot, where last year he missed the cut for the first time in a major as a pro.

TENNIS: Roger Federer seems no closer to figuring out how to beat Rafael Nadal on clay.

The top-ranked Swiss star lost his fifth straight match to Nadal on clay at the Monte Carlo Masters, 6-4, 6-4, and the second-ranked Spaniard extended his winning streak on the surface to 67 matches.

Nadal won the title at Monte Carlo for the third straight year. The two-time defending French Open champion is 14-0 in clay-court finals, and 4-0 against Federer.
