A suspect in the kidnapping of 3-year-old Ny-Toria Kelton on Saturday was arrested Sunday morning.
Troy Daye, a 35-year-old Columbia resident, was arrested at a residence in north Columbia on suspicion of kidnapping and suspicion of probation violation, according to a news release from Columbia police.
Police learned where Daye was at about 7:30 Sunday morning, the news release said. He was arrested without incident.
At 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Ny-Toria’s mother reported her child missing, police said. Ny-Toria was last seen at her home in the 1800 block of West Worley Street at 8 a.m. Friday in the company of Daye, according to Sgt. Ken Hammond.
Ny-Toria’s mother said she had left her daughter in the care of Daye while she went to work. Daye was supposed to watch the child and pick the girl’s mother up from work at 4 p.m. When he didn’t, the mother made several attempts to locate Daye and her child but was unsuccessful, Hammond said.
Police issued an Amber Alert for Ny-Toria on Saturday afternoon.
Police were notified at 8:30 p.m. that the little girl had been dropped off at a residence in Boone County. She was reunited with her mother.
Daye was being held at the Boone County Jail on Sunday afternoon, jail administration said. No bond had been set for the probation violation arrest warrant, but bond was set at $20,000 for the kidnapping arrest warrant.
