A 25-year-old Centralia woman pleaded guilty to embezzlement Monday and was sentenced to two years of unsupervised probation after Boone County Judge Gene Hamilton suspended a sentence of six months in prison.

Michelle House, a former office manager and saleswoman from Busenbark Carpet Outlet in Columbia, was convicted of stealing more than $26,000 from her former employer.

On Monday, Boone County Prosecutor April Wilson said House had already repaid Busenbark.

According to court documents, Busenbark owner Traci Busenbark-McCosh reported that House stole money from the carpet company. The documents also said that House forged a company business check in the amount of $5,000, and deposited it into her personal account.

A subsequent 22-month police investigation found that House had stolen cash and merchandise valued at about $26,133.

House has already started serving her sentence.
