Blue Fugue singer/songwriting winners

Violet Vonder Haar, who was profiled in the Missourian’s Muse section on Saturday, won first prize in the Blue Fugue’s third singer/songwriter competition Monday.

Vonder Haar, a freshman at Central Methodist University in Fayette, won for her song “You Work That Way.” Competing against 16 others, she won $150.

Joel Kanne won second prize; Corbin Kyle and Clay took third prize. They won recording time in a Columbia studio.

This was the Blue Fugue’s third competition in which songwriters were asked to compose around a word. This time, it was “Columbia;” past words were “Monday” and “circus.”

The competition is the brainchild of Sam D’Agostino, who is the host of the club’s Monday events, including open mic nights. From now on, his daughter, Anna D’Agostino, will take over the host duties.

Future songwriting competitions are planned, but no dates have been set.
