The Missouri softball team lost to Baylor 3-0 on Sunday, in Waco, Texas, leaving the teams tied for the lead in the Big 12 Conference at 12-3.

The No. 21 Tigers (36-20) combined for only four hits against the No. 8 Bears (43-12) and failed to get a runner in scoring position. Tigers pitcher Jen Bruck (18-7) gave up two earned runs on eight hits in four innings. An unearned run scored after Bruck’s throwing error in the second inning.

No. 3 Oklahoma (14-4 in the Big 12) and No. 5 Texas A&M (12-5) are also in contention for the conference title.

HICKMAN LACROSSE: The Kewpies lost 9-7 to Parkway West on Sunday. Mason Poage led the Kewpies with three goals and an assist, A.J. Jayamanne scored two goals and Thomas Eckles and Logan Parker had a goal a piece. Nick Stohlgren had three assists and goalie Dan Hurst had 20 saves.

PGA: Scott Verplank, who as a teenager growing up in Dallas got to know Byron Nelson and play several rounds with the former star, used three straight birdies and an incredible par save from a bunker at No. 17 to win the first EDS Byron Nelson Championship played without its namesake.

“There’s no question in my mind that the stars lined up and I got a little help from upstairs. I just haven’t been playing that good,” said Verplank a one-stroke winner over Luke Donald.

“I think Byron had a hand in this week.”
