A young woman was robbed Tuesday afternoon when another woman jumped in her car and demanded cash.
At about 3 p.m., the young woman was driving her vehicle in the area of Garth and Forest avenues. When she came to a stop, a 30- to 40-year-old woman entered her car through the front passenger side door, Columbia police said.
The suspect displayed a knife and demanded the victim give her cash. After the victim gave the woman an undisclosed amount of money, the woman forced her to drive to another location in the area, police said.
When they arrived, the suspect fled on foot. No injuries were reported, police said.
Columbia Police Department Sgt. Will Green would not comment on whether the suspect knew the victim, but said police do have a lead in the case.
“We have an idea of who we think it might be, but that is not grounds to give out a name,” he said.
Green said that police do not know what type of knife was used in the robbery. The victim did not provide a description of the weapon, and it was not recovered at the scene, he said.
