Man arrested on suspicion of unlawful use of weapon following argument

A Boone County man was arrested Sunday night on suspicion of unlawful use of a weapon, second-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child, according to a Boone County Sheriff’s Department news release.

No one was injured in the incident.

Patrick Lynn Baker, 49, was arrested after shooting a 30-30 caliber rifle at his wife who was hiding in the woods after the two had an argument, according to the sheriff’s department.

The suspect’s wife said her husband had been drinking all day and that the two had been arguing in the car while she drove home, according to the release. She told deputies that she pulled over, Baker got out of the car and she drove home. When he arrived home, she fled to the woods, the sheriff’s department said.

Baker got a rifle from the house, sent their 13-year-old daughter to the woodshed behind the house and then fired the rifle into the woods from the front porch, according to the release.

Baker was being held at Boone County Jail early Monday afternoon on $13,500 bond, Detective Tom O’Sullivan said.
