A database containing the names and Social Security numbers of some current and former University of Missouri employees has been accessed by an unknown person or persons. The access was not authorized by the university.
Gary K. Allen, vice president for Information Technology for the UM system, said the numbers were intentionally accessed from an online university source. “The University considers this a serious matter and has notified law enforcement authorities,” Allen said in the e-mail.

Because the reason for the access is unknown, Allen advised MU employees to take steps to avoid identity theft. They should contact their financial institutions and check with credit reporting agencies.
