Missouri baseball team suffers rare shutout loss

Oklahoma evened the series with Missouri by taking a 5-0 win on Saturday at Taylor Stadium. It was the second time this season that the Tigers have been shut out.

Missouri falls to 34-14 overall and 15-8 in the Big 12 Conference, while Oklahoma improves to 29-21 and 9-14 in the league.

The Sooners scored a run in the first inning when a throwing error allowed Joseph Hughes to score. Oklahoma pulled away with a three-run seventh. Oklahoma added a run in the ninth.

Sophomore Ryan Lollis had two of Missouri’s five hits, with singles in the first and fifth. Tigers starter, sophomore Rick Zagone, lost for just the second time this season. He allowed two runs, one earned, on six hits in six innings.

The Tigers will close out their home schedule at 1 p.m. today as Missouri and Oklahoma wrap up their three-game series at Taylor Stadium.

ROCK BRIDGE BOYS TENNIS: The Bruins won the Class 2 District 5 title for the seventh year in a row Saturday. The Bruins had 35 points to finish first. Jefferson City (30) was second, Helias (21) was third and Hickman finished fourth after winning a coin flip with Lebanon.

In singles, Aron Franck finished second and in doubles Rock Bridge’s Stefan Nosic and Jay Kinderknecht finished fourth.

Team regionals begin Tuesday with Hickman visiting Rock Bridge at 4 p.m.
