Council appoints three to Planning and Zoning Commission

Barrow, two new members chosen

Two new members and one longtime member were chosen by the Columbia City Council on Monday to fill the three open spots on the Columbia Planning and Zoning Commission.

The three members were selected from a record-high group of 21 candidates for the positions. That field had been narrowed to seven before Monday's council meeting.

Commission Vice Chairman Jeff Barrow was chosen by unanimous decision for a third five-year term. The council also selected Helen Anthony on a 5-2 vote. She was strongly recommended by State Rep. Judy Baker, D-Columbia, said Third Ward Councilman Karl Skala.

Ann Peters was chosen to fill a one-year slot left open when former commissioner Jerry Wade was elected to the Fourth Ward seat on the council.

The Planning and Zoning Commission makes recommendations to the council in regard to zoning and other land-use matters. The minimum requirements for the commission state that members must meet voting requirements and be Columbia residents for at least one year.
