Demand better when it comes to price of gas

Thursday, May 24, 2007 | 12:00 a.m. CDT

OK, enough is enough.

I urge every citizen to contact our Missouri state legislators and the governor and lieutenant governor and demand that state, county and city petroleum taxes be suspended for a period of six calendar months beginning July 1.

While those taxes are suspended, demand your elected officials at the state and federal levels of government actively and urgently address finding and producing alternative fuel sources and much more current fuel-efficient vehicles.

Americans can no longer afford to have costs of transportation continue to rise unabated and still function as if nothing is happening.

The petroleum industry has abandoned the well-being of the American public in favor of exorbitant profits, in part by refusing to erect and enable many more gasoline refineries within the continental United States. It is up to the American people to actively combat that abandonment.

We are the ones to do it. I urge you to act now. Remember this financial raping of the American consumers at the polls, too.
