An incident that started with a bang ended in two arrests Wednesday night.
“Some neighbors called and said shots had been fired,” Columbia police Sgt. Will Green said.
At about 10:30 p.m., neighbors directed Columbia police to the house at 4320 Stevendave Drive, where police arrested Joseph Gormus, 43, and Robert Berry, 22, on suspicion of discharging firearms within the city limits.
Police seized two shotgun shells and three shotguns from the house, according to the news release. A third person was in the house at the time of the arrests, but police did not believe that person was involved in the shots fired, the release said.
The shots did not injure anyone, Green said, and police were no longer investigating the incident.
Berry also was arrested on suspicion of an outstanding traffic warrant, Boone County sheriff’s deputies said. Because the traffic warrant was a state charge, Berry was taken to the Boone County Jail. He was released from the jail after posting $632 bond.
Green said the incident was not related to other crimes in the area, including an incident of shots fired from a car at the intersection of Hanover Boulevard and Olympic Boulevard on May 26.
“I think they just had a few drinks and wanted to make some noise,” Green said.
