Callaway County Sheriff’s deputies on Wednesday arrested a man in connection with the shooting of a 19-year-old man at a north Columbia convenience store on Saturday morning, Columbia police said.
Deputies arrested Eddie Lamont Jackson, 18, after Columbia police received a tip Tuesday from a CrimeStoppers caller who told them Jackson was at a home in rural Callaway County. Columbia police notified the Callaway County Sheriff’s Department, which arrested him at about 1 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said Jackson shot Damorea Sal-
isbury in the head during a fight involving 100 to 200 people ear-
ly Saturday morning at Break Time, 100 Smiley Lane. Police said they did not know why Jackson shot Salisbury.
Jackson was charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action. He was being held in lieu of $250,000 bond at the Boone County Jail on Wednesday afternoon. He was serving two years of unsupervised probation after he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor possession of marijuana on May 10. Jackson was previously placed on two years of unsupervised probation after pleading guilty to felony possession of a controlled substance Jan. 10.
Columbia police Capt. Brad Nelson said Salisbury was in serious, if not critical, condition Wednesday afternoon.
