Club organizes early run

The Columbia Multisport Club will hold its annual Break the Record Run at 5:30 a.m. today. The run/walk will begin at the MKT Trail access point off Forum Boulevard. The event is free and open to the public. All levels of runners and walkers are welcome. Participants can choose from several distances and paces. Anyone who participates in the run/walk will be entered in a drawing for a new pair of shoes.

The run/walk is part of a series of events that take place at 5:30 every Tuesday and Thursday morning.

MU SOFTBALL: For only the third time in the past 10 years, the Tigers finished in the top 25 in the final ESPN.com/USA Softball national poll. The Tigers, who finished the season at 40-24 and third in the Big 12 Conference, were ranked 19th. The most recent time the Tigers finished in the top 25 was 2005, when they were 20th.

This season, the Tigers, led by 2007 Big 12 Coach of the Year Ehren Earleywine, made it to their 11th NCAA regional tournament. They advanced to a regional championship for the second time in three years, losing to sixth-ranked DePaul at the Carbondale (Ill.) regional.

MU FOOTBALL: Six Tigers players will try their hand at baseball by taking part in ceremonial first-pitches Wednesday when the Kansas City Royals host the St. Louis Cardinals. The players will also throw out first-pitches June 18 when the Royals visit the Cardinals in St. Louis.

Tony Temple, Martin Rucker and Chase Coffman, of the Kansas City area, and Will Franklin, Darnell Terrell and Hardy Ricks, from the St. Louis area, will be at both games.
