Brian A. Downing, 49, of Columbia, was arrested Thursday in connection with a burglary early that morning at Subway, 607 Business Loop 70 E. Columbia police Capt. Zim Schwartze said an employee of a nearby business told police he heard glass breaking and saw the suspect pedal away with a box of loot.

Police said they found Downing riding his bicycle at the corner of Range Line and Wilkes streets, according to a news release. The witness identified him as the man he saw leaving Subway. Police found a box full of money hidden near a home on Stone Street, the release said.

Downing pleaded guilty to first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle in 2004 in Boone County Circuit Court and was sentenced to five years of supervised probation, according to Missouri Case.net.
