A former assistant fire chief for the Boone County Fire Protection District pleaded guilty to driving with excessive blood alcohol content Tuesday in Boone County Circuit Court.
Sharon Curry, 45, now the executive director of the Missouri Fire Protection District Association, was arrested about 2:40 a.m. in October 2006 after she was stopped at a sobriety checkpoint on Grindstone Parkway.
Sgt. Scott Ewing of the Boone County Sheriff’s Department said Curry was driving her own vehicle with a passenger — identified by fire board member Shelly Dometrorch as Fire Protection District Chief Steve Paulsell — when she was stopped. Curry was originally charged with driving while intoxicated.
Stephanie Morrell, an assistant Boone County prosecutor, said she recommended that Curry serve two years of unsupervised probation.
Prosecutors amended the driving while intoxicated charge to driving with an excessive blood alcohol content after Curry agreed to plead guilty. Both charges are Class B misdemeanors punishable by up to six months in jail and a $500 fine.
Curry’s attorney, Robert Murray, said “there were problems with the entire checkpoint,” including how the sobriety test was administered and the Breathalyzer police used to test Curry’s blood-alcohol content.
Calls to Curry were not returned Tuesday evening.
