PrintFifteen PGA Tour Professionals will be in Columbia on Monday, July 9 for the kick-off of the 17th annual Rainbow House Cornerstone Insurance Golf Classic at the Country Club of Missouri.
The tournament is hosted by PGA Tour Professional Jason Schultz and benefits the Rainbow House in Columbia. Schultz grew up in Columbia and remembers watching Stan Utley get the tournament started.
“I’ve known about it since its inception,” said Schultz about why he decided to become a part of the event. “It was important to do something for the community.”
A former member of the University of Missouri Men’s Golf Team, Schultz has hosted the event for around the past five years.
“It raises money for a great cause and it’s a great event,” Scultz said. “It’s a unique opportunity for people of central Missouri to meet PGA players.”
The Rainbow House is located in Columbia and its mission it to assist families in crisis and help keep children safe. Rainbow House is a regional Child Advocacy Center (CAC) and a Children’s Emergency Shelter.
The CAC works with children who have been physically and/or sexually abused, while the Shelter is a place for children that are in foster care and can also be used by parents if there is a family crisis.
The money raised from the event will go to help fund summer programming for the Rainbow House. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the tournament will being with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The tournament will also feature a Long Drive Competition at 1:30 p.m. which is open to the public for a $5 fee.
