Amid late-night fireworks, residents of two duplexes south of Columbia didn’t hear the bullets that hit their houses late Wednesday night.
The residents of two joined duplexes in the 500 block of Chris Drive awoke this morning to find at least three bullet holes in their homes, said Detective Tom O’Sullivan of the Boone County Sheriff’s Department. He said the residents probably thought the gunshots were fireworks, which littered the street Thursday. Deputies think the shooting occurred between 10 p.m. and midnight Wednesday night, O’Sullivan said. Nobody answered the door Thursday afternoon at the duplexes, which bore “no trespassing” or “beware of dog” signs.
Sheriff’s deputies recovered shell casings from a .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun, which they think was used in the shooting.
O’Sullivan said Thursday afternoon that the Sheriff’s Department had identified no suspects and knew no motive for the shooting.
