Missouri wrestling coach Brian Smith named Shawn Charles and Lee Pritts as assistant coaches Thursday. Smith also named former MU wrestler Ben Askren as a volunteer assistant to the team for the upcoming season.

Askren and Charles, who wrestled at 126 pounds for Arizona State University, share the same distinction of being the first four-time All Americans in their collegiate wrestling programs.

Charles and Pritts will be filling positions left by former MU assistants Bart Horton and Pat McNamara. In June, McNamara was named as head coach for Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, while Horton took an assistant coaching position at Air Force.

Pritts, who served as an assistant for six seasons at MU returns after a three-year stint as an assistant with the Old Dominion Monarchs, who earned consecutive second-place finishes in the Colonial Athletic Association and qualified for the NCAA Championships. Pritts earned All-American honors while wrestling for Eastern Michigan in 1996.

In 2006, Charles lead Fresno State to a third-place finish in the NCAA Western Regional as the head coach. From 2001 to 2005 Charles worked as an assistant at Big 12 conference opponent Nebraska.

SOCCER: Tickets to see David Beckham’s first game against Major League Soccer competition went on sale Thursday, and the general manager of FC Dallas had no doubts the English star would draw a sellout.

Beckham, who is joining the Los Angeles Galaxy next week, will suit up July 31 in Frisco, Texas against FC Dallas. The game is part of a tournament and not a regular-season matchup.

The tickets to the game at Pizza Hut Park will cost about twice the usual FC Dallas game, ranging from $35 for the end zone to $250 for field-side seats.

FC Dallas general manager Michael Hitchcock said the prices are similar to those at Pizza Hut Park for the 2005 and 2006 MLS Cup championship matches.

“We feel pretty confident that it’s going to become the hottest ticket in town,” Hitchcock said. “There’s only one chance to see Beckham the first time.”
