Head Coach Mike Anderson Suspends Senior Forward Kalen Grimes

St. Louis native suspended indefinitely following a violation of team policy

For Immediate Release

Monday, July 9, 2007

Columbia, Mo. - University of Missouri Head Basketball Coach Mike Anderson has suspended senior forward Kalen Grimes indefinitely for violation of team policy.

The action comes after the St. Louis native was involved in an incident in Florissant, Mo., over the weekend.

"I am extremely disappointed in the actions of Kalen Grimes and have suspended him indefinitely from our program," Head Coach Mike Anderson said. "With this suspension, Kalen will not be allowed to workout with our team and must take the necessary steps to not only earn the trust of his coaches and teammates, but the trust of Missouri's alumni and fan base.

"We instituted strong social responsibility standards from the first day we arrived here at Missouri, and expect our young men to conduct themselves in a first-class manner in both the classroom and in their everyday lives," Anderson continued. "Those standards were not met by Kalen, which included a zero-tolerance policy we implemented following the unfortunate events surrounding DeMarre Carroll last week.

"Although the circumstances surrounding both Kalen and DeMarre differ a great deal, I understand the cumulative effect these events can have on the perception of a program and want to assure our fans that these incidents will be dealt with appropriately."

Although charges have not been filed against Grimes, details surrounding this weekend's incident are currently under investigation by the Florissant Police Department. Due to the open nature of the case, the Department of Athletics must defer questions to the Florissant authorities.
