If the developers of Columbia Mall have their way, shoppers will get to hit a bigger Target.
General Growth Properties, the mall’s development and management firm, has applied for a revision to the mall’s development plan to accommodate a 26,810-square-foot expansion of Target. The current store is 101,969 square feet.
The plan would also create more parking spaces on the mall’s south side, where storm water detention ponds are located.
Columbia’s Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing on the issue at its July 19 meeting.
Details of changes shoppers could expect to see and when they could expect to see those changes are still being explored.
“Target is committed to the community of Columbia, and we are currently exploring options for our existing store,” said Joshua Thomas, a Target media relations representative. “At this time, it would be premature to discuss further specifics.”
Katie Essing, general manager of Columbia Mall, said that since Target owns its building and property, mall management does not know details about the proposed expansion.
