Woman pleads guilty to robbery, faces more charges Monday

A Columbia woman accused of two May robberies pleaded guilty and was sentenced on one charge Wednesday and will be back in court Monday to face two others.

Veronica Thrower, 41, was arrested May 21 in connection with a robbery at Garth and Forest avenues. She had been arrested May 12 in connection with a similar, but unrelated, May 1 robbery.

Police said the Garth Avenue robbery occurred when a teenage driver stopped her car at Garth and Forest. Thrower opened the door of the car, showed the driver a knife and demanded money, police said. In the other robbery, Thrower hurled beer bottles at a person and then robbed the person, police said.

Thrower was charged with second-degree assault in the May 1 robbery. She pleaded guilty to that charge Wednesday and was sentenced to 60 days in the Boone County Jail, minus the time served since May 12.

She will be back in court Monday for arraignment on charges of armed criminal action and first-degree robbery for the Garth robbery.
