Lindsey Hunter, a former Missouri volleyball player and current Team USA setter became the first former Tigers volleyball player to win an international medal on Thursday when Team USA beat Peru to win the bronze medal at the Pan-American Games in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. Team USA won in three straight 25-22 sets.
Although Hunter did not play in the medal game, she was a contributor in three early matches against Costa Rica and Puerto Rico. Team USA lost to eventual tournament champions No. 5 Cuba, which won its eighth gold in the past 10 Pan-American Games.
Hunter joined Team USA in May of 2004, and saw a lot of action in 2006 playing in a seven-match tour of Italy, according to usavolleyball.org.
The former Missouri standout lead the Big 12 in assists per game in each of her four years as a Tiger. It made her the first Big 12 athlete to lead a statistical category in every year of her eligibility.
