Boat explodes at the Lake of the Ozarks, 3 men hospitalized

Two men were airlifted to University Hospital on Saturday after an explosion at the Lake of the Ozarks.

According to the Missouri State Water Patrol, Wayne Brockman, of Lee’s Summit, Kvols Brockman and Wesley Brooks, both of Raymore, were attempting to start their Yamaha Jet-Boat engine with a flat-head screwdriver at Cartwright Cove. The screwdriver sparked a fire in the engine compartment, which caused the explosion at around 1:25 p.m,, according to the Missouri State Water Patrol. The three men then jumped into the water.

Brooks was transported to Lake Ozarks Regional Hospital via Emergency Medical Services and was in stable condition Saturday evening.

Wayne Brockman, the owner of the boat, and Kvols Brockman were airlifted to University Hospital. Wayne Brockman was in stable condition and Kvols Brockman was in critical condition, according to the house manager at University Hospital.
