Their uniforms bring stares and questions. But they don’t mind.
With team names such as The Village Idiots, Chuck Norris’ Left Foot, and V-Necks, this weekend’s Show-Me State Games Adult Kickball competition seemed more like a competition to win the title of the most creative team name. However, The Runs from Kaiser, Mo., found a team name that sets it apart from the rest.

While signing up her son’s baseball team for the Show-Me State Games two years ago, Mary Hulett noticed that there was an adult kickball competition. She became interested and approached a few of her friends whose sons played on the baseball team together. The idea took off. The newly formed team needed a name.
Luckily, a few male members of the team tossed around possible team names before finally supplying The Runs.
“It was the cleanest one they came up with then,” Hulett said.
The uniform is a white t-shirt with The Runs written on the front in brown lettering. All of the t-shirts bearing the No. 2 on the back, so there was no doubt about the origin of the team’s name.
For this year’s competition, the team practiced two times, with each practice lasting one hour. The kickball games are not all about competition for this team, but more about fun. The player’s ages on the team ranged from 22 to 49, making them one of the oldest in the competition.
“This is gonna be fun,” one of the players said before the game began, “Just the running up to kick the ball felt like I pulled muscles.”
