“Now that you’ve got the groove, Kaitlin, Kaitlin bust a move!”
The short pause in the cheer for Kaitlin was not because of a lack of spirit or because someone forgot the words. It was a chance for the orange-shirted King Cobras to catch their breath. They had just finished, “Way to watch it, way to watch it, way to watch it, all the way, hey!” for another teamate.
Desiree Toth, a member of the 14-and-up fast-pitch softball team, said the cheers they recite usually come from other teams.
“We just take them and then make them our own,” Toth said.
Toth said putting a number on the amount of cheers she and her teamates knew wasn’t possible, but it is “a whole lot.”
Toth was able to decide on a favorite.
“Send it, send it, send it over, send it, send it, send it deep!”
Toth initaited many of the cheers throughout the game, but said the cheers aren’t for everyone.
“Some girls like it and some girls don’t,” Toth said, “It depends on how nervous they get when they’re up to bat.”
The Cobra’s also included the opposing team, the Lady Bandits, in their rhyming guidance from the dugout.
“Rolling, rolling, rolling, the pitcher’s going bowling, get those wormies some helmets, yee hah!”
