Skala to continue hours for coffees

COLUMBIA—Inspiration can come from almost anywhere. For Third Ward Councilman Karl Skala, it came from work.

Setting monthly office hours for meetings with constituents was an idea that overflowed from MU, where he is a research specialist in biomedical sciences.

Skala has met six times with residents at the Coffee Ground, 2703 E. Broadway, on Saturdays before council meetings. He plans on continuing the meetings, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., because of their success.

“It’s usually four or five, but last time I think I had seven people who wanted to discuss issues,” Skala said.

Meeting with Columbia residents over coffee is expanding into more weekends than he thought, Skala said.

“Several residents have called to ask if I could meet with them on different Saturdays,” he said.
