PrintThe Associated Press- Anthony Reyes ended a 12-game regular-season losing streak that began last September, helping the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Milwaukee Brewers 5-2 on Saturday night to sweep a day-night doubleheader.
Reyes (1-10) was recalled from Triple-A Memphis earlier in the day by the pitching-poor Cardinals. He avoided first-inning trouble that has dogged him all year and needed only 67 pitches to get through six innings, allowing two runs.
Jim Edmonds had a two-run single and Scott Rolen had an RBI double in a three-run first off Chris Capuano (5-7).
Cardinals 7, Brewers 6, Game 1
The St. Louis Cardinals’ biggest comeback of the season came at the expense of Francisco Cordero, the Milwaukee Brewers’ closer who’s nearly perfect at home but extremely hittable on the road.
Ryan Ludwick’s RBI single capped a three-run ninth inning against Cordero for the Cardinals, who trailed by six runs early before rallying to a 7-6 victory on Saturday in the first game of a day-night doubleheader. It was the team’s biggest rally since coming from six down to beat Milwaukee 10-6 on June 9, 2006.
Royals 6, Rangers 5
John Buck had three hits and two RBIs as the Kansas City Royals beat the Texas Rangers 6-5 Saturday night for their third straight win.
The Rangers made things interesting in the ninth off closer Octavio Dotel. Nelson Cruz hit a two-run homer and Frank Catalanotto followed with a double. But Dotel struck out pinch hitter Ramon Vazquez and got Michael Young to fly out to end the game.
