Man is accused of firing rifle at female relative

COLUMBIA — Columbia police arrested a 23-year-old Columbia man after he shot at a relative during an argument at his home, police said.

Damon A. Williams was arrested on suspicion of second-degree domestic assault and armed criminal action.

At 2:20 p.m., police responded to a report of shots fired through the door of 123 Redwood Road, according to police radio traffic. Williams fired a rifle from the doorway of the home at a 19-year-old woman, who is a member of his family, standing outside, according to a press release from Columbia police Sgt. Ken Hammond.

Columbia police Capt. Brad Nelson said he thought two adults and several children were inside the home at the time, but no one was hurt during the incident.

When police arrived at the home, they got everyone out of the house and found the man hiding in a ravine behind the house, Nelson said. Officers also found a rifle behind the house, Nelson said.

Williams was being held in the Boone County Jail on Tuesday evening. His bond had not been set as of 8 p.m.

The Columbia Police Department’s Domestic Violence Enforcement unit was still investigating the incident Tuesday evening.
