A Columbia man was arrested Monday on suspicion of choking a woman and attempting to run her over with a car Sunday night on Keene Street.
Columbia police arrested Kirk C. Godsey after a 22-year-old woman, Jennifer Gundy, told authorities Godsey pulled the emergency brake as she was driving her car at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
Godsey then choked Gundy and threatened to kill her, according to a restraining order filed by Gundy in Boone County Circuit Court on Monday.
“He held me in my car while choking me,” Gundy wrote in court documents. “I managed to knock the gear into neutral, and he lost his grip when I let the open car door roll back over me. I ran to the street to get help, and he tackled me.”
Two bystanders — who were not named in court records — stopped to help her, Gundy told police. Godsey then tried to run them over with the car, the report stated.
Gundy filed an earlier restraining order against Godsey in July. Godsey and Gundy’s relationship is not indicated in court documents.
Godsey, 53, was being held in Boone County Jail on Monday on two counts of first-degree assault and one count of first-degree domestic assault. His bond was set at $150,000.
A hearing for Godsey’s criminal case has not been set. A hearing on the restraining order has been scheduled for Aug. 30.
