Missouri Task Force 1 is headed back to Boone County today in the wake of Hurricane Dean’s landfall in southern Mexico.

The 34-member task force was sent to Dallas on Monday to assist in search-and-rescue efforts if the hurricane, now a Category 2 storm, struck south Texas.

The task force was sent there by the Federal Emergency Management Agency along with five other groups from across the nation. A news release sent by the Boone County Fire Protection District, which the task force falls under, said the group is slated to arrive in mid-Missouri by 1 p.m. Thursday.

The release said the task force completed several training courses while in Texas, including training in working with collapsed buildings and search operations.
