Rock Bridge senior Elizabeth Worsowicz steps in front of senior teammate Whitley Zitsch to make a return in doubles play against Hickman on Thursday.

COLUMBIA — Rock Bridge senior Elizabeth Worsowicz should have felt fatigued, battling gusting winds throughout her match in addition to the heat. But even though she was the last Bruins' singles player left on the court, she confidently topped Hickman sophomore Dina Kaissi 6-1, 6-2.

At the No. 1 singles spot, Worsowicz placed shots in the right spots at the right times against her opponent, helping Rock Bridge shutout Hickman 9-0 on Thursday at Cosmo-Bethel Park.

Before the match, Rock Bridge coach Ben Loeb preached to his players to play with the wind, because it would be a factor during the evening. His players played the wind well in the landslide victory.

As one of three returning Rock Bridge seniors, Worsowicz had conditioned throughout the summer by playing in tournaments to boost her performance. It’s paid off so far this season. She improved her singles record to 2-0.
