Taylor Cowan stingy for Kewpies' softball team
COLUMBIA — Hickman junior pitcher Taylor Cowan followed up her season-opening no-hitter with another stingy outing on Thursday night, striking out seven in the Kewpies’ softball team’s 3-1 victory against the Westran Hornets.
Although she was pleased that her team kept the Hornets from scoring after the first inning, Hickman coach Courtney Haskell stopped short of calling the win a strong defensive performance.
“We had a few errors here and there, mental and physical, but you work with what you’ve got,” she said.
For the second straight game, the Kewpies’ offense did just enough to win, but Cowan says she’s fine with that as long as Hickman keeps winning.
“We’re holding them,” she said. “If we’re holding them to none and scoring three a game, that’s pretty good.”

Rock Bridge 14, Marshall 1
Sophomore pitcher Amy Buildner led the Bruins softball team on Thursday at Marshall, pitching a complete game and allowing only one run on two hits. All 14 Bruins players reached base and eight players had hits, with five driving in runs.
Rock Bridge is now 2-0 and will host Smith Cotton on Monday.
